Artist statement:
My paintings tell a story. In college I studied literature and wrote some poetry, but I did not write fiction and tell stories. When I decided to resume active art study and practice, I decided to tell stories through my art. Often I tell my own personal story as a transgender person, but I also strive to use symbols and images through which viewers can see their own stories.
Art Education and Organizations
I am an artist based in Chicago and have formally studied at The Drawing Workshop (2005-2007), received a Certification of Painting & Drawing, Continuing Studies at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, SAIC (2007-2009), and then a BFA, Painting & Drawing, SAIC (2010-2013), and I continue to take classes at the Lill Street Art Center (2015 to the present).
I have learned much from my drawing and painting teachers, to name a few at SAIC, Richard Hull, John Philips, Mary Lou Zelazny, Marion Kryczka and at Lill Street Art Center — Bob Horn, Ken Minami, and Sarah Bastress.
Since 2017, I have been one of the founding members of a nonprofit art group Agitator Artist Collective, a 501(c)3 group that ran a storefront gallery and art space with monthly shows and performance on 1112 N Ashland Ave, Chicago until 2020. This place closed during the pandemic, and it re-opened at a new and larger location on 3851 W Fullerton Ave, Chicago in 2022. Agitator members worked with Artspace, a national nonprofit arts consulting group to help secure funding for remodeling the new storefront. https://www.artspace.org/ImmersionChicago
Currently I am a member and volunteer monitor of Painting and Drawing at the of Lill Street Art Center.
